Sources within LCS headquarters have confirmed all ten owners of North America’s franchise organizations, including returning teams like Evil Geniuses and Immortals, have begun lobbying Riot Games for naming rights for next year’s World Championship song.
After the 2019 Worlds song was released, all three teams represented in the 3:28 minute video qualified for the semifinals. To add to the mystic powers of the ‘Phoenix’ track featuring Cailin Russo and Chrissy Costanza, FunPlus Phoenix lifted the world crown.
LCS insiders have confirmed Cloud9’s Jack Etienne was leading the charge for the title of the track to be called “On Cloud Nine,” while four-time domestic champions Team Liquid allegedly submitted a request for “Liquid Rises to the Top.”
Another source has also confirmed a late submission is expected from the returning Immortals Gaming Club organization.
The consortium, who is taking OpTic Gaming’s franchise slot for the 2020 season and beyond, is allegedly preparing a package based around bringing back Imagine Dragons for the next international competition, and simply titling their song “Immortals.”
Riot scriptwriters are apparently split on the ideas, with insiders reporting the temptation of a “redemption arc” storyline for the music video the main reason for the interest. There are opposing ideas, however, mainly expressing an aversion to bringing back an org they “killed off the show in Season 7.”
While most LCS teams have come together for the requests, LEC organizations have also been working behind the scenes for their own bids. The only confirmed bid is apparently titled “We Can Be Gamers Too,” to be based around a jazzercise tune.
