Reports have come out overnight suggesting that the next major will be played in the Southern Hemisphere for the first time in competitive CS:GO history, according to sources.
The city rumoured to host is Palmas in Brazil, which has impressed both Valve and the currently unnamed tournament organiser (TO) running the event with its friendly community, above average infrastructure (including a multitude of furniture stores) and the repeated calls for both players and talent to “COME TO BRAZIL”.
The decision to move the major to a minor city in South America has drawn some criticism from some in the community who feel that the major shouldn’t be allowed in such a “shit hole”.
However, a spokesperson for the TO has downplayed these fears, saying that the people who are criticising both the city and Brazil are overreacting.
“You know, people taking things out of context. When people say ‘COME TO BRAZIL’ they want people to enjoy the sight, eat some random stuff and fight off pickpock- I mean say hello to the friendly locals. Yes, friendly locals. Also, it was Palmas or Auckland, so the call was relatively easy,” they revealed to Fireball.
Meanwhile, a respected member of the talent pool has lashed out to us.
“So, first of all, the fact that they want to host a major in such a tinpot country, it just boggles the mind.”
“You really have to be ridiculously dim-witted to think people will fly there just to get stabbed by MIBR fanboys. Plus, the fact is that no decent members of the talent will go as well, so you’re gonna be stuck with people like Pimp,” they said.
An official announcement is expected within the week, after the conclusion of the TO’s next event.
