One of the League of Legends European Championship’s full-time script writers has been fired, after a Riot Games-run internal investigation revealed the penman had lifted the entire Cloud9 Summer Split storyline and pasted it into his Fnatic document.
The discovery came during a routine check-up from Riot’s league integrity officials. Ironically a source within the European Championship revealed to Fireball Esports that the check-up was actually being run due to United States-based managers realising the non-supported Splyce had somehow slipped into playoffs.
“To tell you the truth, we were just there to find out how those buffoons in Europe had let Splyce, a team with no fans and barely any viewers, get into the postseason,” a source within Riot told Fireball ahead of the LEC playoffs this weekend. “What we stumbled upon was much worse – unbridled, pure and nasty plagiarism.”
“What initially was just going to be a stop-in to the Berlin offices to simply swap Splyce out of the playoffs and move Schalke 04 in – who doesn’t love those football viewing numbers we get off those boys in blue – became a full-blown look into the copy-paste job we found by a closet European C9 fan.”
There were whispers in the League community of Fnatic’s script storyline matching up a little closely to the C9 marathon run into playoffs from last year, but many either waved away the queries, or simply chose not to believe.
Now it has been revealed that Fnatic’s 0-4 start to 2019, broken only by a victory over eventual European wooden-spooners Rogue, was completely planned.

“Bwipo” Rau in the document submitted to LEC headquarters ahead of first stage practice. The unnamed Riot employee explained many scriptwriters often made mistakes with names due to so many European players moving to North America.
“Honestly, out of all the mistakes and faults this writer made, putting the wrong name on the document was not one we were really worried about,” the Riot manager said.
“Once, in 2017, H2k’s script had Fabian “Febiven” Diepstraten listed as their mid laner for like five or six weeks instead of Marcin “Selfie” Wolski and we only realised when that team hit 1-7 like a month in.”
According to further sources within LEC’s infrastructure, despite figuring out that Fnatic’s path is exactly the same as Cloud9’s but just one step early, the European officials are going to be sticking to their guns on the storyline.
Because of that, Fireball is pleased to announce that Fnatic will win their match against Team Vitality this weekend, before recording a 3-2 victory over SK Gaming in the next round.
Things get a little muddy in the third match of the playoffs, the preliminary final in Round 3, but it’s believed the script writer wasn’t sure what to do, and so just had Fnatic winning 3-0 against Origen.
Finally, Fireball can reveal Fnatic faces a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of their superteam rivals G2 Esports, with news of that predetermined storyline sure to warm the heart of former Fnatic mid laner and all-round org hero Rasmus “Caps” Winther, who jumped ship for the European villains ahead of the 2019 season.
